RLDatix has launched an AI tool that increased NHS bank fill rates by up to 20 per cent in early pilots.
Smart Match went live at The Connected Health and Care Summit 2026 as RLDatix expands its use of artificial intelligence in healthcare workforce management.
The system automatically generates targeted shift notifications, including for urgent and very urgent bank duties.
Instead of alerting every available worker, Smart Match uses AI predictions based on each person’s booking history, preferences and previous behaviour to identify those most likely to accept a shift.
RLDatix developed the technology as health and care organisations face workforce shortages alongside pressure to reduce agency spending, improve productivity and improve workers’ experience.
The company said its four main aims are to increase bank fill rates and reduce cancellations, cut agency spending, save administrative time and improve worker experience and workflows.
Smart Match was developed with customers involved in shaping its design, validating its outputs and implementing it across nursing, medical and non-clinical roles.
RLDatix said February data from a group of already high-performing pilot organisations showed bank-filled duties increased by up to 20 per cent.
Overall bank worker utilisation increased by up to 17 per cent.
The company also reported a significant reduction in manual email alerts for urgent shifts, which it said reduced administrative work and the risk of communication delays.

“Smart Match supports our Out of Hours team with filling short notice requests and there is less need for manual intervention from them.”
Self-booking also increased by up to 26 per cent.
One bank worker at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust said:
“I was so impressed with how easy it was, and it was reassuring to know that the system had checked my availability prior to notifying me. I think this is a wonderful idea as it means you’re not looking constantly for shifts on Loop frightened you will miss some.”

RLDatix said it would continue working with early adopter customers to monitor Smart Match’s impact over time as the rollout to its wider UK customer base progresses.
