Accenture has agreed to acquire Alfahealth to expand its digital health capabilities in Italy.

Alfahealth, a subsidiary of Engineering Group, provides a service-led digital health platform used by healthcare organisations.

The platform is designed to help modernise clinical processes, connect data across the care pathway and improve patient access, experience and outcomes.

The deal is intended to support the modernisation of Italy’s healthcare system, with a focus on digital health infrastructure, interoperability and data-led care.

Interoperability refers to the ability of different health systems and technologies to share and use patient information safely and consistently.

Alfahealth has more than two decades of experience developing and operating technology solutions that support patient journeys, clinical workflows, diagnostics and administrative processes.

Its platform helps providers integrate data and support new models of care that meet the scale and regulatory requirements of the Italian healthcare system.

Accenture said the acquisition aligns with its strategy of combining services, software, data and AI-powered platforms to support end-to-end transformation.

Alfahealth’s capabilities are expected to be combined with Accenture’s expertise in data, AI, cybersecurity and cloud technologies.

Teodoro Lio, market unit lead for Accenture in Italy, said:

“Italy is at a pivotal moment in the transformation of its healthcare system, with growing investments in digital health, interoperability and new models of care.”

Lio said Alfahealth’s healthcare expertise and relationships across the Italian ecosystem would help accelerate innovation and improve care delivery, supporting more connected and data-driven patient experiences.

The acquisition will add around 1,200 specialist professionals to Accenture Italy’s health practice.

Accenture said the move would strengthen its position in the Italian healthcare sector and support national programmes in a regulated environment.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Completion of the deal remains subject to customary closing conditions.
