A free app giving patients in Scotland access to their medical records has launched on smartphones for the first time.
The first version of MyCare.scot lets users view their medications and allergies, check their vaccination history and use the national service finder to locate health and wellbeing services.
The launch follows the successful rollout of a web-based service, which began in NHS Lanarkshire in December 2025 before expanding nationally in April.
The app will continue to develop through to 2030, allowing users to check appointments, provide information about themselves and receive digital letters.
Health secretary Angela Constance said: “The availability of MyCare.scot on the app store is an important milestone in this government’s programme to give people a single, secure digital access point to their personal health information.
“I am clear that our NHS in Scotland will never be for sale. That is why the app has been developed within the public sector, protecting the privacy of patient medical records and ensuring best value for the taxpayer.”
Karen Reid, chief executive of Public Services Delivery Scotland, added: “MyCare.scot is about beginning to make it simpler for people in Scotland to access their own health and social care information, in a way that is secure and easy to use.
“The new mobile app is an important step forward, helping people find what they need quickly, to inform their care.”
Scottish Labour’s health spokesperson Jackie Baillie welcomed the app’s launch but said it was “almost a decade behind” similar technology in England.
She said: “After years of dither and delay, SNP ministers are only now starting to catch up.
“Although, it is regrettable that patients in Scotland have to wait even longer before they are able to do basic things like book appointments and order prescriptions.
“This needs to be a top priority for the Scottish Government.
“The SNP’s failure to modernise our NHS has piled pressure on services and has made it harder for patients to access the care they need.”
