Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman have launched Luffu Link, an LTE-enabled health and safety band designed to work without a nearby phone.

The US$250 wearable is available for pre-order and is expected to begin shipping in early 2027. It comes in halo gold, onyx black and sterling blue.

Luffu Link combines all-day health sensing, voice logging, location awareness and access to trusted contacts in one device.

The band complements Luffu’s health-monitoring app, which launched earlier this year and uses AI to gather and organise family information, identify day-to-day patterns and flag notable changes.

Park and Friedman founded Luffu following their experiences caring for their families and ageing parents. They developed it to give families a clearer picture of a loved one’s health without constant check-ins or making them feel monitored.

“When you become a family caregiver, or the CEO of the family, these people are spending an enormous amount of time doing it,” Park said.

“Research shows over 27 hours a week on average, which is a crazy amount of time…I think technology can play a big role in helping reduce this load, but as we found out, the tools to help them are pretty fragmented.”

Users can press a button on the wearable to record information by voice, including medication updates, symptoms, meals, mood and reminders.

The Luffu app then organises that information and incorporates it into the family’s broader context.

The company says the device is aimed at family caregivers, independent older adults and health- and safety-conscious adults who want to stay on top of their health.

Luffu Link also continuously collects health and wellness information including activity, sleep, resting heart rate, calories burned, heart-rate variability and breathing rate.

The company says the information can be used to identify daily patterns, track changes over time and provide personalised insights or alerts.
